TRADING STANDARDS ALERT

Premier Power Wash

Bromley Council's Trading Standards would like to hear from anyone who is approached by this company offering to clean driveways or roofs with a jet wash.

Cleaning a block paved driveway with a power wash can damage the driveway and this method is not recommended.

This company does not give a cooling off notice or a receipt and Trading Standards are urging any residents who are approached to call them on the
Doorstep Crime Rapid Response number 07903 852090.
SATNAVS
Remember to remove tell tale sucker marks from the windscreen of your car when you take off your satnav as thieves are still active around the borough.
REMINDER
With the warm weather comes the temptation to leave ground floor windows open at night, this also provides an opportunity for thieves to help themselves to your belongings.

Keep your windows securely closed at night or you will lose property. Don't forget, if you're pottering about the garden during the day, with the house windows open, another opportunity is provided for thieves to steal while you're not looking.
MUSIC TO DISPERSE ANTI-SOCIAL GROUPS
The Chislehurst Safer Neighbourhood Team and Sainsburys are using classical music in an attempt to discourage groups of youths from gathering and participating in anti-social behaviour in Chislehurst.

This area has historically seen disorder from school children waiting for buses in the afternoon, and other youths using it as a gathering point in the evenings, both of which distress older and younger members of the community passing through the area.

A system has been fitted at Sainsburys which plays music from a memory card so the quality of the sound will not degrade as would be the case with a tape based system. The out-of-copyright music is specially recorded by the company and no Performing Rights Society licence is required.

The store has control of when the music is played and its volume. The system has the benefit of not being overtly offensive and does not infringe Human Rights legislation, as has been alleged by the use of the mosquito box.

A similar scheme used by the Co-Op nationally, has seen reductions in anti social behaviour and stock loss through shoplifting.
Bromley Borough Police have issued the following advice to people using taxis at night: Always get a black cab or pre-book a car through a licensed minicab operator.

Carry the phone number of a minicab company you've used before and trust.

Check that the minicab you ordered is the one you get into.

Check that his operator has given the driver your name and destination.

Always sit in the back and carry a mobile phone.

If you have a problem with the driver of a black cab, make a note of the number on the white plate inside the cab and report it to police or the Public Carriage office.

If you have a problem with a minicab driver remember the car's make and number and report it to police.
